Tabor clinches tournament win for Lady Hawks

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Sophomore Heather Tabor won at No. 4 singles to clinch Huntingdon's 5-4 win over Meredith in the opening round of the USA South Athletic Conference on Thursday.

Tied 4-4 after eight matches, Tabor won a three set battle, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, to give Huntingdon the victory.

The Lady Hawks (15-5) advance to the second round and will face Methodist at 2 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday.

Huntingdon jumped out to a 2-1 lead after taking two of the first three doubles matches. Freshmen Dusty Catala and Mariah Bastos won 8-4 at No. 1 while Caroline McBroom and Josie Waddell won 8-2 at No. 3.

Leading 2-1, the Lady Hawks needed to win three singles matches to take the win. Waddell won 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles before McBroom won Huntingdon's fourth match 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.
