Huntingdon volleyball working to reach potential

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team has been going strong during the first nine days of preseason practice.

With the start of the season a week away, first-year head coach Amy Patterson and first-year assistant coach Jamie McCormack want to have their 15 players at their best.

"We're excited about the season," Patterson said. "The girls have been working hard, but we have a long way to go. We can see our potential, but we have to continue to work hard and get better in a lot of areas. Ball control is probably one of the most important things we're focusing on right now. Once we improve in that area, a lot of other areas should fall into place."

The Lady Hawks' season begins on Aug. 31 with the Huntingdon College Jubilee. The two-day tournament will be played in Roland Arena and Wilson Gym. The Lady Hawks open with Birmingham-Southern.

This weekend, Huntingdon will hold its first scrimmage with an Alumni Match. The Lady Hawks play the Alumni on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Wilson Gym.

"This should be a good opportunity for us," Patterson said. "We need to play someone else, six-on-six in a match situation. We need to experience the speed of play against a different team, rotate people around and see how we play with each other. It will be a good opportunity for us to see where we are."
