Huntingdon volleyball downs LaGrange for fifth straight win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team did it the hard way Tuesday night, edging LaGrange in five games.

The Lady Hawks jumped out to a two-game lead before having to rally to win 25-14, 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 16-14. Huntingdon (8-9) trailed 10-3 and 13-6 in the final game. With LaGrange (4-12) leading 14-10, the Lady Hawks scored six straight points to end the match.

The win was the fifth straight for the Lady Hawks. It was the third five-game match Huntingdon has played in that span. Assistant coach Jamie McCormack, who was filling in for head coach Amy Patterson due to illness, said the players have matured a lot since the start of the season.

"It's encouraging to see us come together when the match is on the line," McCormack said. "Earlier in the season, if we had fallen behind 10-3, it would have been over. But these girls have come a long way. These girls wanted this win and they found a way to do it."

Lauren Rozof, Kelly Kahumoku and Abby Brown combined for 37 kills in the match. Rozof had 15 kills, one block and four digs, Kahumoku recorded 12 kills, two blocks and eight digs and Brown finished with 10 kills, two blocks and four digs.

Ally Brislinger added nine kills and Kali Martin finished with eight kills, 24 digs and two aces. Lexi Rangel also had 24 digs to go with three aces, Bianca Hulsey turned in 40 assists, eight digs and two aces and Storm McWhorter added eight digs.

Huntingdon travels to Spelman on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match.
