Huntingdon volleyball picks up eighth win in nine matches

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team picked up a conference win in its first match on Saturday and closed the day with its eighth win in nine matches.

The Lady Hawks knocked off Great South Athletic Conference rival Salem 25-19, 25-16, 19-25, 25-12 before downing Tuskegee 26-24, 25-16, 25-20.

After a 3-9 start this season, Huntingdon (11-10, 6-1 Great South Athletic Conference) pushed its record above .500 with the win over Tuskegee.

"We're continuing to grow as a team," Huntingdon head coach Amy Patterson said. "We're improving on the areas that we've needed to work on and we're playing better as a team. The girls know we can't get complacent. We still have a lot of work to do as we head into the final two weeks of the regular season."

Kelly Kahumoku (23 kills), Kali Martin (14 kills), Abby Brown (13 kills), Lauren Rozof (12 kills) and Ally Brislinger (11 kills) combined for 73 of the Lady Hawks' 79 kills in the two matches. Kahumoku also had 20 digs and Martin had 18 digs and three block assists in the two wins. Brown totaled seven digs, one solo block and two block assists, Rozof added 12 digs and three aces and Brislinger finished with six digs, two solo blocks and three block assists.

Setter Bianca Hulsey recorded 39 assists and 10 digs against Salem and 32 assists and eight digs against Tuskegee. Lexi Rangel finished with 16 digs against Tuskegee and nine digs against Salem and Sam Morris had four aces against Salem and five digs against Tuskegee.

Huntingdon returns to action on Tuesday against Judson at 5 p.m. in Wilson Gym. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the Breast Cancer Awareness match. The Lady Hawks have been raising money for the Joy to Life Foundation and will continue to welcome donations at the match.
