Volleyball falls in two hard-fought conference matches

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team took Piedmont to four games and LaGrange to five games on the opening weekend of conference play.

Piedmont, the No. 2 team in the USA South preseason poll, edged Huntingdon 25-19, 26-28, 25-20, 25-19 and LaGrange got by the Lady Hawks 25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 21-25, 15-8.

For the day, five players combined for 82 of Huntingdon's 93 kills. Kali Martin recorded 24 kills and 21 digs in the two matches, Kalen Morgan added 18 kills and seven blocks, Rachel Dunlay recorded 15 kills, 31 assists and 15 digs, Bria Rochelle had 14 kills and 15 digs and Brittany Frost finished with 11 kills. Lexi Rangel totaled a team-high 42 assists and six aces, Lauren Condon had a team-high 45 digs and Storm McWhorter finished with 22 digs.

Against Piedmont (10-3, 2-0 USAS), Martin had 11 kills and nine digs and Morgan had 10 kills and two blocks. Rangel had 19 assists, Dunlay had 12 assists and seven digs, Condon had 27 digs and McWhorter had nine digs.

Against LaGrange (7-9, 1-1 USA South), Martin had 13 kills and 12 digs, Rangel had 23 assists and 11 digs and Dunlay had 19 assists, eight kills and eight digs. Morgan totaled eight kills and five blocks, Rochelle added eight kills and nine digs, Condon finished with 18 digs and McWhorter followed with 13 digs.

Huntingdon (4-7, 0-2 USA South) travels to Sewanee on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match.
