Volleyball splits to open the season in the Huntingdon Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team opened the season with a win over Talladega College and a loss to Sewanee on Friday.

The Hawks beat Talladega 25-11, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21 and fell to Sewanee 22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 15-9.

Huntingdon (1-1) continues play in the tournament on Saturday in Roland Arena. The Hawks take on Belhaven at 9 a.m. and Agnes Scott at 7 p.m. In between, Sewanee will play Piedmont at 11 a.m., Talladega will face Belhaven at 1 p.m., Agnes Scott will take on Sewanee at 3 p.m. and Piedmont will play Talladega at 5 p.m.

Sophomore Bria Rochelle led Huntingdon with 22 kills, 24 digs, seven aces and four blocks in the two matches on Friday. Junior Audrianna Hargitt added 20 kills and 24 digs and junior Kalen Morgan finished with 16 kills and six blocks. Junior Lauren Condon led the Hawks with 45 digs and junior Rachel Dunlay had a team-high 46 assists.

In the match against Talladega (0-3), Morgan led the way with 11 kills and three blocks, Hargitt had 10 kills and freshman Ashton Flores finished with seven kills. Dunlay recorded 27 assists, Condon had 16 digs and Rochelle had 12 digs and seven aces.

Rochelle had a match-high 18 kills against Sewanee (3-2) and also had 12 digs and three blocks. Hargitt followed with 10 kills and 15 digs. Condon totaled 29 digs, Dunlay finished with 19 assists and senior Cora Murchison added 16 assists. Senior Lexi Rangel had 11 digs and Flores and Morgan each had three blocks.
