Volleyball closes season with conference sweep on Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team sent its seniors out with a pair of conference wins on Saturday at Roland Arena.

The Hawks downed Mary Baldwin 25-13, 17-25, 25-14, 26-24 in the first match and knocked off Greensboro 25-11, 25-23, 25-18 to close the season.

In their final two matches as Hawks, seniors Ashley Childs, Lexi Rangel, Cora Murchison, Deidre Corbin and Lauren Condon combined for 26 kills, 73 assists, 13 aces and 76 digs.

Murchison's 68 assists in the two matches helped her surpass 1,000 assists in her Huntingdon career. The Montgomery native finished with 1,021 assists in two seasons.

Rangel recorded 17 digs on Saturday to reach 1,000 digs for her career. Rangel also had 1,207 assists in four seasons.

During the past 10 seasons, only three Hawks have recorded more assists than Murchison and only two have more than Rangel. Rangel's digs are the sixth most during the past decade.

Condon finished with 30 digs in her final two matches to give her 1,495 in her three-year career. Condon has the most career digs of any Huntingdon volleyball player during the past 10 seasons.

Against Mary Baldwin (2-29, 0-19 USA South), sophomore Bria Rochelle led the Hawks (15-20, 5-11 USA South) with 11 kills, seven digs and four aces and junior Audrianna Hargitt had eight kills and six digs. Childs finished with seven kills and junior Kalen Morgan added six kills.

Murchison totaled 36 assists and nine digs and Condon finished with 19 digs and six aces. Junior Bobie Wilson had 14 digs and freshman Ashton Flores finished with four blocks.

In the win over Greensboro (7-23, 3-16 USA South), Hargitt had 11 kills, Rochelle and Corbin each had seven kills and Childs and Morgan followed with five kills apiece. Hargitt also had three blocks, Rochelle had 14 digs and three blocks and Childs recorded three blocks.

Murchison finished with 32 assists and eight digs. Rangel added 13 digs, Wilson had 12 digs and Condon followed with 11 digs.
