Tyma recognized with release of AVCA All-Region teams

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon junior Amy Tyma received recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the release of the Division III All-Region teams.

Tyma was an honorable mention selection on the South Region team. She is the first Huntingdon player to be recognized on an AVCA Region team since 1998 and the first Hawk to earn recognition during the NCAA era.

Tyma's performance helped lead the Hawks to a 23-15 record this season and the program's first appearance in the USA South Tournament semifinals.  

The USA South Player of the Year, Tyma led the conference and the South Region and was second in Division III with 547 kills when her season ended. Since the NCAA went to its current scoring format in 2008, Tyma is the first Huntingdon player to record 500 kills in a season.

Her .296 hitting percentage led the conference and the region and was second in Division III for players with at least 1,000 attacks. She finished third in the USA South and fifth in the South Region with 562 digs. She also had 56 blocks and 49 service aces.

Top-ranked Emory produced the South Region Player of the Year (Leah Saunders), Freshman of the Year (Cassie Srb) and Coach of the Year (Jenny McDowell).

The AVCA selects Division III All-Region teams for the Central, East, Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, New England, New York, Northeast, South and West Regions.
