Catala and Powell named USA South Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon's Dusty Catala and Wes Powell were named USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Catala was named Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week while Powell was named Baseball Rookie of the Week.

Catala finished the weekend with a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles and took a 2-0 record in doubles play.  

In Thursday's 7-2 win against Point, the freshman teamed with Zoya Robinson at No. 2 doubles to take an 8-4 win. In singles play, she lost the first set 1-6, but responded with a 7-6 (7-0) second set and closed the match with a 10-6 tie-breaker win.

In a 9-0 sweep against Wesleyan, Catala cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

In Sunday's 8-1 win against Agnes Scott, the LaBelle, Fla. native teamed with Mariah Bastos at No. 3 doubles to take an 8-2 win. In singles, she closed her weekend at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win.

Powell, a native of Cantonment, Fla., turned in an 8-for-15 performance, scored four runs and had five RBIs against Washington and Lee and fourth-ranked Emory this past week.

Against Washington and Lee, the freshman went 2-for-4 while driving in two runs and scoring one run in a 10-5 loss.

In a three game weekend against No. 4 Emory, Powell registered six hits, three runs and three RBIs. For the week, Powell turned in a .667 slugging percentage with a .563 on-base percentage.
