Coates and Hitt named first USA South Men’s Lacrosse Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A pair of Huntingdon student-athletes swept the first USA South Athletes of the Week awards for men's lacrosse.

Freshman Bryce Coates was named Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week and junior Sam Hitt was named Defensive Player of the Week.

This is the first season the USA South has sponsored men's lacrosse as a sport, making Coates and Hitt the first players in the conference to ever receive the recognition.

Both players were recognized for their performances in a season-opening 10-5 win at the University of Dallas.

Coates, a native of San Diego, Calif., scored the first two goals of the game and finished with three goals. He also had two caused turnovers and a ground ball in the win.

Hitt, a native of Finksburg, Md., was 15-for-19 on faceoffs and recorded a game-high nine ground balls.

The Hawks will play their home opener on Wednesday against Centre College at 1 p.m.
