Mellown, Barnhill and Keiser recognized as USA South Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Three Huntingdon student-athletes were chosen as USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.  

Senior Carden Mellown was named Pitcher of the Week for baseball, senior Zach Barnhill was recognized as Player of the Week for men's lacrosse and junior Tyler Keiser was chosen as Defensive Player of the Week for men's lacrosse.

This is the conference's first recognition of baseball and men's lacrosse Athletes of the Week for the spring.

Mellown was recognized for his performance in Huntingdon's season-opening 2-0 win over Belhaven on Saturday. Mellown earned the win in six innings, striking out eight, walking one, hitting one batter and allowing one hit.

Barnhill and Keiser were recognized for their performances in a 20-3 win over the University of Dallas and a 20-5 win over Centenary this past weekend.

Barnhill scored eight goals and recorded five assists and nine ground balls in the two games. Against Dallas, Barnhill had four goals, one assist and nine ground balls. Against Centenary, Barnhill scored four of the Hawks' first six goals and finished with four goals and four assists.

Keiser was 25-for-35 on faceoffs in the first two games, recorded 22 ground balls and scored three goals. Keiser was 18-for-18 on faceoffs with 18 ground balls and scored two of Huntingdon's first five goals against Dallas. Keiser was 7-for-17 on faceoffs against Centenary and had one goal and four ground balls.
