Huntingdon opens Beach Tournament against Stevenson

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The first-year Huntingdon beach volleyball team dedicated its new courts and played its first home match on Friday at the Alice D. Reynolds Outdoor Volleyball Center.

The Hawks fell to Division III Stevenson University 5-0 in the first match of the Huntingdon College Beach Tournament. The Mustangs are a second-year program.

Huntingdon's No. 2 team of Alexis Creasman and Bria Rochelle went to three sets in their match with the Mustangs (6-5). Creasman and Rochelle won the first set 21-19 before falling 21-12 and 15-8 in the final two sets.

Creasman finished with 15 kills, 17 digs and an ace and Rochelle had nine kills, 12 digs and three aces.

The Hawks' No. 1 team of Audrianna Hargitt and Shelby Young fell in two close sets, 24-22, 21-17 and the No. 3 team of Gabby Hughes and Devyn Stringer lost 21-17, 21-18.

Hargitt finished with 12 kills, 15 digs and four aces and Young had eight kills, six digs and three aces. Hughes recorded eight kills, 15 digs and an ace and Stringer totaled seven kills, 10 digs and an ace.

The No. 4 team of Lexie DeVuyst and Alex Hillman lost 21-8, 21-15 and the No. 5 team of Bethann Bullard and Samm Mamon lost 21-8, 21-8.

DeVuyst totaled nine kills and nine digs and Hillman had seven kills and 24 digs. Bullard had two kills, two digs and an ace and Mamon finished with four kills and 13 digs.

The Huntingdon College Beach Tournament will continue on Saturday with three matches. Huntingdon and Principia will start the day at 9 a.m. and Huntingdon and Stevenson are scheduled to play at 1:45 p.m. In between those matches, Principia and Stevenson will play each other.
