Baseball Player of the Week Honors to Cochran of Piedmont and Brown of Huntingdon

DECATUR, Ga.- Through almost the first month of play in the 2012 season, the Great South Athletic Conference baseball player of the week awards keep rolling on this week honoring Piedmont's Caleb Cochran as pitcher of the week and Huntingdon's Grant Brown as player of the week. This is the third straight week Cochran has been awarded the honor this season and the first for Brown.

Lighting up the pitcher's mound to start the season, Cochran has been on fire for the Lions, helping lead them to a 7-1 start to the season. In a match-up against #4 Christopher Newport on Feb. 26, Cochran was lights out going seven innings, allowing no earned runs, on five hits and two walks, striking out six. With that stellar performance, he's now 3-0 with a 0.42 ERA this season.

Also proving beneficial to his team, Brown has been crucial in the Hawks 9-3 start to the 2012 season. Over a four game set, Brown batted .571 (8-for-14) with five RBI, four runs, three doubles, a triple, a .929 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base percentage. His best single-game performance came on Feb. 26 in a 20-8 win over Capital University. The junior was 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, a double and a triple in the win. In an 11-8 win over Wabash on Feb. 26, Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs and two doubles.

Cochran and Piedmont hit the diamond again on March 1 at home against Oglethorpe University with first pitch set for 5 p.m. Brown and Huntingdon have a doubleheader at home against nearby Birmingham Southern on March 3. They are set to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
