Huntingdon baseball splits with Berry

ROME, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team couldn't pull off a sweep on Saturday, but the Hawks took the weekend series at Berry College.

Huntingdon held Berry to four hits in a 3-1 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Hawks managed 11 hits in the second game but came up short 6-5. Game 1 was a shortened seven-inning game and the second game was a normal nine-inning game.

With Friday's 13-7 win over Berry, the Hawks (19-9) picked up two wins in the three-game series.

In Saturday's win, Grant Lowman (3-1) picked up the win, striking out five, walking two, allowing four hits and giving up one run in seven innings. Jordan Freeman singled in the first inning to score Jordan Green. The Hawks went ahead 3-0 in the third inning when Trey Smith scored on an Evan Agnew single and Austin White scored on a Berry error.

Seth Currie had four hits in the doubleheader. Currie had two hits in each game and was the only Hawk with multiple hits in Game 1.

In Game 2, Joseph Odom had a two-run homer, two hits and three RBIs. Odom's two-run homer in the first inning gave the Hawks an early lead. Trailing by four runs in the fifth inning, Huntingdon cut it to 6-4 on RBI singles by Currie and Odom.

An RBI double by Green in the top of the seventh inning made it a one-run game, but the Hawks couldn't overtake Berry (12-16).

Green and Tyler Blackwell each had two hits in the final game. Cory Belyeu (4-3) took the loss.

Huntingdon returns to action on Thursday at Piedmont.
