Huntingdon baseball completes series sweep of LaGrange

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team used another solid pitching performance and took advantage of LaGrange miscues to pick up a 3-1 win on Sunday at Posey Field.

The win completed a three-game sweep of the Panthers and gives the Hawks (24-10) a 7-2 record in the Great South Athletic Conference. Huntingdon will wrap up conference play next weekend at Maryville.

LaGrange (13-22, 4-5 GSAC) scored first on Sunday but the Hawks answered with two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the eighth. The first two runs came with two outs in the fifth.

A Chad Baxley double was followed by back-to-back walks to load the bases. Baxley scored when Jordan Freeman was hit by a pitch. Joseph Odom scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1. In the eighth inning, Tyler Tierney singled to score Freeman.

Baxley, Trey Smith and Evan Agnew each had two hits. The Hawks finished with eight hits.

Kevin Aaron (4-1) picked up the win, striking out four, scattering seven hits and allowing one run in 5 1/3 innings. Josh Knuth and Will Davis each pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief before Tyler Spivey pitched the final inning to get the save.
