Huntingdon tunes up for GSAC tournament with win over Point University

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team closed out the regular season with a 15-5 win over Point University on Tuesday at Posey Field. It was the fourth straight game that the Hawks have scored at least 10 runs.

Huntingdon (27-11), the regular-season champion in the Great South Athletic Conference, returns to action on Friday in the first round of the conference tournament in LaGrange, Ga. Top-seeded Huntingdon opens against fourth-seeded Maryville. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Central.

In Tuesday's seven-inning game, the Hawks scored eight runs in the first two innings and led 11-2 after four innings. Keegan Lambeth led Huntingdon at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases.

Grant Brown, Evan Agnew and Jordan Freeman each had two hits. Brown also had an RBI and scored three times, Agnew had two RBIs and a run and Freeman had an RBI and a run. Austin White drove in three runs and scored once, Joseph Odom had two RBIs and two runs and Tyler Blackwell had two RBIs.

Chad Baxley had an RBI and Trey Smith, Cameron Lewis and Jordan Green each scored once.

Philip Neal (1-0) picked up the win in two innings of relief. Cory Belyeu, Joseph Fincher, Neal and Craig Brown combined for seven strikeouts, six walks, one earned run and six hits in seven innings.
