Hawks complete sweep of Oglethorpe

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team wrapped up its series against Oglethorpe with an 8-2 win on Sunday at Posey Field.

The Hawks (4-2) won all three games in the series and outscored the Stormy Petrels (0-3) by a combined 28-6 in the series.

Trey Smith and Seth Currie accounted for half of the Hawks' 10 hits in Sunday's game. Smith was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Currie was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Grant Brown and Tyler Blackwell also scored twice.

Huntingdon jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first two innings and added four more runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Brown scored two of the Hawks' first four runs. Brown scored on an error in the first inning to tie the game 1-1 and scored on a Smith single in the second inning to make it 4-1. In between, a Caleb Astin sacrifice fly scored Blackwell and Joseph Odom drove in Currie.

Currie, Astin and Smith played a role in two more runs in the fourth inning. Currie scored on an error and Astin came home on a Smith single.

Blackwell and Trammell DeJarnett scored the Hawks' final two runs on an error in the fifth inning.

Gavin Free (1-1) picked up the win, striking out six, walking two, scattering five hits and allowing two runs in six innings. Mitchell Luckie and Tyler Spivey combined for two strikeouts, a walk and one hit in the final three innings.

Huntingdon returns to action on Wednesday at Point University.
