Huntingdon baseball takes Game 1 from Emory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Joseph Odom drove in four runs and Craig Brown pitched seven scoreless innings to lead the Huntingdon baseball team in a 5-1 win over Emory on Friday at Posey Field.

Odom was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, four RBIs and two runs scored and Grant Brown was 3-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base to lead Huntingdon (7-4) at the plate. Craig Brown (3-1) picked up the win, scattering six hits, striking out seven and walking one in seven innings. Grant Lowman and Neil Lawler pitched the final two innings. Lawler struck out four and allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings.

Huntingdon took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Odom came to the plate with Grant Brown on first. Odom's two-run homer was his fourth home run of the season.

In the third inning, Odom grounded out to shortstop to score Brown for a 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Caleb Astin scored on an Odom double and Odom scored on a Tyler Blackwell ground out.

Emory (5-3) avoided the shutout with a run in the eighth inning.

Huntingdon and Emory continue the weekend series on Saturday and Sunday in Atlanta. Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. Central and Sunday's game is set for noon.
