Free frustrates Vikings as Hawks' baseball takes Game 2 of series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon pitcher Gavin Free kept Berry College off balance on Saturday as the Hawks took a 9-1 victory.

Free (4-4) earned the win in eight innings, scattering five hits, walking one, striking out four and allowing one run. Free carried a two-hitter into the seventh inning. Neil Lawler pitched the final inning, facing three batters and striking out one.

The win was the second against the Vikings in two days. Huntingdon (19-9) won the first game 11-0 on Friday. The Hawks and Vikings will wrap up the series at Posey Field on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Seth Currie and Joseph Odom combined for five hits and seven RBIs for the Hawks. Currie was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run and Odom was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Odom opened the Hawks' scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning. The home run was his 11th of the season.

Huntingdon built a 5-0 lead after three innings and put the game away with three runs in the seventh and one run in the eighth.

In addition to Currie and Odom, Tyler Blackwell was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Evan Agnew had two runs and a RBI and Caleb Astin scored twice. Grant Brown finished with two stolen bases.
