Conville earns 250th win as Huntingdon baseball coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team split on opening day, earning a 4-3 win against Randolph-Macon and losing 4-3 to Rhodes.

The win against Randolph-Macon in the first game of the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic gave head coach D.J. Conville his 250th win as the Hawks head coach. Entering his 10th season as head coach, Conville's record stands at 250-128.

The Hawks scored three runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to get by the Yellow Jackets. Austin Clanton, Nathan Edwards, Jordan Freeman and Will Pharis each had a RBI for Huntingdon. Pharis, Gavin Free, Tyler Blackwell and Landon Sessions each scored a run. Edwards was the only Hawk with multiple hits, finishing the game 2-for-3.

Joseph Fincher picked up the win in six innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three. Tate Fowler pitched two scoreless inning of relief before Neil Lawler earned the save in the ninth inning.

In the second game, Huntingdon scored two runs in the seventh inning on a single by Free to tie the game 3-3. But Rhodes scored in the top of the ninth to take the win.

Trammell DeJarnett, Free, and Sessions each scored runs for Huntingdon.

Trey Worthington took the loss for the Hawks in relief.

The Huntingdon Firehouse Classic continues with two games on Saturday. Rhodes (1-0) and Randolph-Macon (0-2) play at Posey Field at 1 p.m. Huntingdon (1-1) will take on 12th-ranked Millsaps (1-0) at 5 p.m.
