Huntingdon baseball comes up short against 12th-ranked Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday, but 12th-ranked Millsaps held on for a 5-3 win in the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic.

The Hawks, who were held to two hits in the first eight innings, put together four hits and scored three runs in the ninth. Trammell DeJarnett drew a walk to open the inning before Courtney Moss recorded the third hit of the night for Huntingdon.

With runners on, Will Pharis singled in DeJarnett and Tyler Blackwell singled to score Moss. A Victor Taylor single scored Pharis to make it a two run game with two outs. But Millsaps forced a ground out to end the game.

Blackwell led Huntingdon (1-2) at the plate, going 2-for-3.

Gavin Free (0-1) took the loss, scattering six hits, striking out two and allowing two earned runs in five innings.

The Firehouse Classic concludes on Sunday with a game between Rhodes (1-1) and Randolph-Macon (1-2) at 1 p.m.

Huntingdon returns to action on Friday at Oglethorpe.
