Huntingdon baseball falls in Game 3 at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team scored two runs in the ninth inning but fell to Piedmont 4-2 on Sunday in the final game of a conference series.

Piedmont (15-6, 8-4 USA South) took all three games in the series and is currently fourth in the USA South Athletic Conference standings. Huntingdon (16-8, 11-4 USA South) drops to third in the conference standings.

Huntingdon held Piedmont scoreless for the first three innings, but the Lions scored four runs in the middle innings and led 4-0 after seven innings.

Huntingdon cut into Piedmont's lead in the ninth as designated hitter Cheston Wesson and third baseman Will Pharis both scored on a Piedmont error. The Hawks had the bases loaded with two outs when Piedmont forced a fly ball to end the game.

Gavin Free (3-3) took the loss for the Hawks in seven innings, striking out nine and allowing nine hits and two earned runs.

Huntingdon returns to action on Friday at Maryville. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
