Huntingdon baseball bounces back to win Game 3 at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Jordan Freeman, Will Pharis and Clark Berry combined for 10 RBIs and pitchers Gavin Free and Nathan Edwards combined for a three-hitter as the Huntingdon baseball team won Game 3 of a conference series at Maryville on Monday.

The Hawks scored nine runs in the first three innings to spark a 14-1 win in seven innings.

Huntingdon (17-10) improves to 12-6 in the USA South Athletic Conference and Maryville (11-12) drops to 6-9 in the conference. Maryville took the first two games of the series on Sunday.

Freeman, who finished the series with three home runs, was 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs on Monday. Freeman drove in four of the Hawks' first six runs in Game 3, including a three-run homer in the second inning.

Pharis was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run and Berry was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run. Trammell DeJarnett had a RBI and two runs. Josh Hines was 2-for-4 with two runs, Patrick Kucera scored three runs and Gunnar Peters had two runs. Kucera also had two stolen bases.

Free (4-3) earned the win in four innings, striking out eight, giving up two hits and allowing one run. Edwards earned his first save of the season, pitching the final three innings of the game, striking out one and allowing one hit.

Huntingdon returns to action on Wednesday at Posey Field. The Hawks host Birmingham-Southern at 6 p.m.
