Huntingdon baseball rallies for Game 3 win over Ferrum

WILSON, N.C. – The Huntingdon baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to get by Ferrum 10-7 on Saturday in the final game of a three-game conference series.

Ferrum won the first game on Thursday but the Hawks took the series with wins on Friday and Saturday. With one USA South Athletic Conference series remaining, Huntingdon (20-13, 15-8 USA South) is third in the conference standings. Ferrum (19-15, 16-8) is second.

Trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Huntingdon left fielder Patrick Kucera drew a bases-loaded walk to score pinch runner J. Gardiner before second baseman Josh Hines scored on a bases-loaded balk to tie the game with no outs.

The Hawks took the lead on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Trammell DeJarnett that scored short stop Landon Sessions. First baseman Victor Taylor closed the scoring with a two-run double to score designated hitter Will Pharis and Kucera.

Reliever Tate Fowler closed the game with a ground out and two strikeouts in the ninth to earn his first save of the season. Nathan Edwards (1-0) earned the win in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

Third baseman Jordan Freeman finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and DeJarnett was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Kucera had two RBIs and three runs, Sessions scored twice and catcher Austin Clanton was 2-for-3.

Huntingdon returns to North Carolina on Friday for a doubleheader at Methodist.
