Hawks fall in Game 1 of Maryville series

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon baseball team fell behind early and lost to Maryville College 7-3 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series.

The Hawks (15-11, 5-5 USA South) and Scots (19-7, 9-4 USA South) will wrap up the series with a doubleheader beginning at noon Central on Saturday.

Huntingdon fell behind 5-1 in the first three innings Friday night and trailed 6-1 in the sixth inning. The Hawks scored a run in the seventh and a run in the eighth to make it a three-run game, but Huntingdon could not overtake the Scots.

Patrick Kucera and Josh Hines each had two hits and were the only Hawks with multiple hits. Kucera had a triple and scored two runs.

Kucera scored Huntingdon's first run on a third-inning sacrifice fly by Anthony Spivey. Kucera scored the Hawks' second run on an RBI single by Alec Raley in the seventh inning. Jordan Criswell scored Huntingdon's final run on a ground out by Mason Throneberry in the eighth inning.

Zack Watson (4-3) took the loss in six innings.
