Spivey’s 6 RBIs power Hawks past Quakers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon senior Anthony Spivey made his final game at Posey Field a memorable one.

Spivey finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, a triple, six RBIs and three runs on Sunday as the Hawks closed the regular season with an 11-1 win over Guilford College.

Spivey hit a two-run triple to open the scoring in the first inning, made it 6-0 with a two-run home run in the second inning and gave the Hawks an 11-0 lead with another two-run homer in the fifth inning. Spivey's second home run was his ninth of the season.

As a team, the Hawks (27-17) totaled 12 hits against the Quakers (17-23). Seniors Alec Raley, Jordan Criswell and Cheston Wesson were each 2-for-4. Raley scored two runs and Criswell and Wesson each had an RBI and a run.

Senior Patrick Kucera, who entered the weekend as the Division III leader in runs scored, scored two runs to push his season total to 54. Senior Mason Throneberry also scored two runs.

Senior Landon Sessions, junior Luke Ates and sophomore Josh Jackson each drove in one run.

Junior Zach McGrady (8-4) picked up the win, striking out one, walking two and allowing four hits in five scoreless innings. Four seniors closed out the game on the mound. Scott Robertson threw one inning of relief, David Ellison pitched 1 2/3 innings and Dalton Dalrymple pitched one inning before Hunter Dreaden forced a fly out to center field for the final out of the game.

Huntingdon will return to action in a NCAA Regional on May 18. The Division III playoff brackets will be announced on May 15.
