MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team opened the NCAA Division III South Regional with a 7-0 loss to fifth-ranked Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday.
The fifth-seeded Hawks (27-18) held the second-seeded Panthers (38-11) to two runs in the first five innings. But Birmingham-Southern pulled ahead with four runs in the sixth inning and ended the scoring with one run in the eighth inning.
Alec Raley accounted for two of the Hawks' five hits. Zach McGrady (8-5) took the loss in six innings.
Huntingdon will play sixth-seeded Thomas More (30-11) in an elimination game on Thursday at 10 a.m. (Central). Thomas More lost to top-seeded Emory (33-10) 6-5 in the first game of the South Regional.
