Huntingdon falls in bottom of the ninth at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and lost to Piedmont 4-3 on Saturday in Game 2 of a three-game conference series.

Piedmont used a two-out triple to put a runner in scoring position and won the game on a passed ball. The Lions won the first game of the series 3-2 in 12 innings on Friday night.

The Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Coleson Taylor that scored Joseph Calvert and a two-run single by Garrett Headley that scored Chris Fisher and Taylor.

But, Piedmont answered with one run in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Taylor and Calvert each had two hits.

John Crawford (1-1) took the loss in 1 2/3 innings of relief, striking out three and allowing one hit before Piedmont scored the final unearned run. Jared McFall pitched the first seven innings, striking out four, walking three and allowing five hits and three earned runs.

Coming Up: Huntingdon and Piedmont will wrap up the conference series on Sunday at 1 p.m. (Central).
