Hawks rally late to even series with Greensboro

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to get by Greensboro 6-5 on Saturday in Game 2 of a three-game conference series.

Trailing 5-4 with runners on first and second and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Hawks took advantage of a Greensboro error to win the game. The throwing error came on a single by Bradley Harris and allowed Taylor Fought to score to tie the game and Will Cosby to score and end the game.  

With the win, the Hawks evened the USA South Athletic Conference series at 1-1. Greensboro won the first game 2-0 on Friday night. The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at noon at Posey Field.

Huntingdon fell behind early and trailed 3-0 in the third inning. The Hawks used an RBI triple by Wes Powell and an RBI single by Fought to make it a one-run game in the bottom of the third.

Greensboro answered with a run in the fourth inning and a run in the seventh inning and carried a 5-2 lead into the eighth inning. Huntingdon scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI by Chris Fisher and Garrett Headley scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to make it a one-run game.

Powell and Fought each finished the game 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run and Cosby was 2-for-4 with two runs. Harris had two hits, Fisher had one RBI and Headley and Dakota Beane each scored one run.

Ethan Hess (2-1) picked up the win in 5 1/3 innings of relief.
