Hawks shut out Emory on Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team closed out the home portion of its schedule with a 4-0 win over Emory on Senior Day at Posey Field on Friday.

The shutout was the Hawks' first against Emory during the NCAA era.

Sophomore Wes Powell had a hand in three of Huntingdon's four runs, driving in two runs and scoring one. Powell finished the game 3-for-4. Senior Taylor Fought, who entered the game tied for second in Division III in hits and tied for fifth in RBIs, was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Huntingdon opened the scoring in the first inning when Powell doubled to drive in Will Cosby. In the third inning, Powell scored on a single by Fought to make it 2-0.

Senior Jud Owens scored on a Powell single in the seventh inning to make it a three-run game. Owens drove in senior Josh Jackson for the final run of the game in the eighth inning.

Sophomore Brooks Freeman (6-3) picked up the win, striking out three, walking one, hitting one batter and scattering six hits in 8 2/3 innings. Senior Jeremy Peterson pitched the final 1/3 of the ninth inning, allowing a single and forcing a ground out to end the game.

Coming Up: Huntingdon and Emory will continue their series on Saturday in Atlanta. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (Central).
