Hawks close Firehouse Classic with win over Sewanee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team built a five-run lead in the first four innings and knocked off Sewanee 6-1 on Sunday at Riverwalk Stadium. 

The game was one of two played in the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic. Berea beat Guilford 7-3 in the first game of the day.

Huntingdon (3-0) took control quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning, one in the third inning and one in the fourth inning.

Freshmen Tri Overby and Andrew Knight drove in the Hawks' first two runs. A single by Overby scored Wes Powell and a ground out by Knight scored Heath Haskins. Overby scored on a single by Bradley Harris to close the first inning scoring.

The Hawks made it 4-0 in the third inning when a sacrifice fly by Harris scored Overby. Chris Fisher scored on an error in the fifth inning to make it a five-run game. The Hawks scored their final run in the eighth inning when Knight scored on an error.

Overby, Harris and Fisher each finished with two hits. Fisher also had two stolen bases.

Wallace Henry (1-0) earned the win in six innings, striking out three, walking one and allowing six hits and one run. Colton Clark struck out four, walked one and allowed one hit in two innings of relief before John Crawford struck out two and walked two in the final inning.
