Huntingdon loses final game of Piedmont series

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon baseball team lost to Piedmont 9-3 in the final game of a conference series on Saturday.

The Hawks carried a 3-0 lead into the eighth inning before 14th-ranked Piedmont rallied with three runs in the eighth inning and six runs in the ninth inning.

Wes Powell was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run and Andrew Knight was 2-for-3 with a run. Chris Fisher had an RBI and a run and Will Cosby had two hits.

John Crawford (0-2) took the loss in 2/3 of an inning of relief. Starter Brooks Freeman went eight innings, struck out seven, walked two, gave up six hits and allowed one earned run and two unearned runs.

Huntingdon will enter the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Hawks will open the tournament against North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday at Point University's West Field. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. (Central).
