Hawks complete conference sweep of Averett

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon baseball team completed its first conference sweep of the season with a 6-1 win over Averett University on Sunday.

The win capped a three-game series with the Cougars. Huntingdon won the first two games 5-0 and 5-4 on Saturday.

In Sunday's game, Huntingdon scored three runs in the first inning and three runs in the eighth inning before allowing an Averett run in the ninth inning.

Pitchers Wallace Henry and John Crawford combined for eight strikeouts, one walk and five hits in nine innings. Henry (1-1) picked up the win, striking out five and scattering three hits without issuing a walk in seven scoreless innings. Crawford earned his third save of the season, striking out three, walking one and allowing two hits and one run in two innings.

Huntingdon took a 3-0 run in the first inning on run-scoring singles by Tri Overby, Danny Coleman Jr. and Jake Elrod. The Hawks made it 6-0 in the eighth inning on a run-scoring single by Nick Swisher, a sacrifice fly by Chris Fisher and a one-run double by Wes Powell.

Powell finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run and two doubles, Swisher was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Elrod was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Overby had an RBI and a run, Coleman and Fisher each had one RBI and Colton Clark and Cody Hollis each scored one run.
