Seven-run second inning sparks Huntingdon against No. 3 BSC
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team took control with a seven-run second inning and beat third-ranked Birmingham-Southern 10-5 on Wednesday.
The win was the fifth straight for the Hawks this season and snapped a six-game losing streak to the Panthers that dated to 2016.
In the second inning, Huntingdon sent 13 batters to the plate and put together seven hits to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 7-1 lead. All seven runs were scored with two out.
Huntingdon took a 2-1 lead on a two-run single by Chris Fisher before Hall Billings scored on a passed ball. A one-run single by Wes Powell and back-to-back one-run doubles by Colton Clark and Tri Overby made it a 6-1 game. Cullen Stafford closed the inning's scoring with a run-scoring single.
Huntingdon added one run in the fourth inning on a single by Billings and two runs in the sixth inning on a sacrifice bunt by Bradley Harris and a single by Fisher to make it a 10-4 game.
Fisher finished with three RBIs, two runs and two hits. Andrew Knight was 3-for-4 with two runs, Billings had two hits, two runs and an RBI and Powell had two hits, an RBI and a run. Jake Elrod scored two runs, Clark and Overby each had an RBI and a run and Stafford and Harris each had one RBI.
Tucker Duke (1-0) earned the win in three innings of relief.
