Lee named USA South Special Teams Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Linebacker Vincent Lee was named a USA South Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Lee, a freshman from Bessemer, Ala., was named Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in a 44-13 win over Averett University.

Lee blocked a punt on Averett's opening possession and returned the ball 12 yards for the game's first score. The early momentum from Lee's punt block and touchdown helped set the tone for the remainder of the game as the Hawks took control and built a 37-0 lead.

The Hawks will host Hendrix College on Saturday at noon in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. Ticket prices for Saturday's game will be $15 for general admission and $5 for Huntingdon students with a valid student ID.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Anthony Radke, Methodist - The senior wide receiver from Sumter, South Carolina caught three touchdown passes and totaled 178 receiving yards in a 47-12 victory over USA South foe LaGrange last week. Radke caught eight passes for an average of 22.3 yards per reception. He had a long catch of 55 yards which resulted in a touchdown. Also Nominated: Malik Adams, N.C. Wesleyan; Terrance Owens II, Averett; Deshjion Whitlock, Maryville; Troy Helton, Ferrum; Nick Haas, Huntingdon.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Dylan DeGroot, Methodist - The freshman quarterback from Fort Myers, Florida accumulated 312 yards of total offense with four touchdowns in a 47-12 victory over USA South foe LaGrange last week. DeGroot was 16-for-25 passing for 295 yards with three touchdowns. On the ground, DeGroot carried the ball six times for 17 yards including a touchdown. Also Nominated: Adrian Minondo, N.C. Wesleyan; Elijah Chenier, Maryville.

Football Defensive Player of the Week 
Chase Sams, Greensboro - The Berlin, Maryland sophomore linebacker totaled a game-high 23 tackles in a 52-3 loss to USA South rival Maryville last week. Sams accumulated 12 solo tackles and 11 assisted take downs. The 23 tackles were just three short of the Greensboro and USA South single-game record. Also Nominated: Shabre' Judkins, N.C. Wesleyan; Nathan Driver, Averett; Jonathan Clark, Maryville; Kwajay Witcher, Ferrum; Austin Washington, Huntingdon.

Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Ron Pope, Maryville - The freshman linebacker from Trophy Club, Texas totaled four assisted tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown in a 52-3 win over USA South foe Greensboro last week. Pope's touchdown came as he scooped up a first quarter fumble and returned it 22 yards into the endzone. Also Nominated: Jeffery Person, N.C. Wesleyan; Seth Brendle, Averett; Trey Hayes, Huntingdon; Carlos McCracken, Methodist.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Vincent Lee, Huntingdon - The Bessemer, Alabama freshman linebacker blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown in a 44-13 victory over USA South foe Averett last week to complete an undefeated Conference season for the Hawks. Lee's block and score was the first points of the day for Huntingdon. Also Nominated: Chris Richardson, N.C. Wesleyan; Alex Willard, Maryville; Brandon Johnson, Methodist.

 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Tyler Spicer, Maryville - The junior forward from Burns, Tennessee scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 70-62 victory over Centre in the team's only contest last week. Spicer was 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Also Nominated: Trevin Miller, Greensboro; Brandon Brown, N.C. Wesleyan; TJ Cox, Covenant; Jalen Vince, William Peace; Brandon Monk, Methodist.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Sam Johnson, William Peace - The Beaufort, North Carolina freshman guard scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds in a 90-87 overtime victory over St. Andrews in the team's only contest last week. He also added two assists and two steals in the win. Also Nominated: Dante Hoppa, Maryville.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Samm Chandler, Averett - The Burnsville, North Carolina sophomore guard averaged 27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest as the Cougars posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 105-72 win over Southern Virginia, Chandler totaled 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. In a 76-72 victory over Roanoke, Chandler notched a double-double of 31 points and 11 rebounds to go along with six assists, three blocks and two steals. Also Nominated: Mackenzie Puckett, Maryville; Juliette Harp, Huntingdon; Jalisia Campbell, Methodist.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Alixis Roccia, Averett- The Fort Hill, South Carolina helped the Cougars to a 2-0 record last week by averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game. In a 105-72 win over Southern Virginia, Roccia totaled 21 points, seven rebounds, five steals, four assists and one block. In a 76-72 victory over Roanoke, Roccia scored ten points, grabbed two rebounds and collected two steals. Also Nominated: Bekah Walter, Covenant; Tenae McKinzie, William Peace.
