Huntingdon men’s basketball in three-way tie for 2nd in conference

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Andre Ashley sank two free throws with 14 seconds to play and Covenant missed a 3-point attempt with two seconds left as the Huntingdon men's basketball team pulled out an 84-81 win Wednesday night.

The win was the eighth in the past 10 games for Huntingdon and moved the Hawks into a three-way tie for second in the USA South Athletic Conference. With two conference games remaining, the Hawks (9-13, 8-4 USA South) trail conference leader Maryville (17-7, 12-1) and are tied with Averett (11-12, 8-4) and Lagrange (14-9, 8-4).

Huntingdon travels to Maryville on Saturday and will play at LaGrange on Sunday.

In Wednesday's game, both teams kept it close and neither team led by more than four points in the final 10 minutes. An Austin Hill 3-pointer gave Huntingdon the lead for good with 2:53 to play and Ashley scored the final four points for the Hawks.

Hill, who is second in the conference in scoring average at 20.3 points per game, led all scorers with 28 points and was 6-of-11 from 3-point range. This was his fifth game of at least 28 points this season.

Jerome Davis finished with 15 points and five assists and Jason Varney added 12 points and seven rebounds. Ashley had nine points and seven rebounds and Byron Dudley had nine points and six rebounds.
