Huntingdon men come up short at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team lost to Ferrum in a physical 85-79 battle on Sunday.

The Hawks (8-11, 1-7 USA South) rallied from a 15-point deficit in the first half and trailed by eight points or less for most of the second half. A layup by Raheem Berry cut Ferrum's lead to three points, 74-71, with 2:06 to play in the game.

Ferrum (9-10, 4-4 USA South) answered with five free throws to make it a 79-71 game with 1:08 to play. The Panthers hit 11-of-16 free throws in the final 1:40 to close out the game.

In a game that saw 59 fouls called and 89 free throws attempted, the Hawks finished 23-of-39 from the free-throw line and 26-of-61 from the field. Ferrum finished 34-of-50 from the free-throw line and 22-of-46 from the field.

Berry led the Hawks with a career-high 22 points and pulled down five rebounds. Dantavius Washington added 15 points and five rebounds and R.J. Jones had 11 points. Brandon McLean had nine rebounds and seven points before fouling out.
