Huntingdon loses conference opener to Methodist

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team opened USA South Athletic Conference play with an 87-63 loss to Methodist on Saturday.

The Hawks (0-8, 0-1 USA South) only trailed by seven points, 67-60, with 7:19 to play in the game before Methodist (5-5, 1-0 USA South) closed the game with a 20-3 run.

Wyatt Popovich led the Hawks with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Andre Ashley and Jahal Robinson followed with 10 points apiece and KK Franklin and Brandon McLean each added eight points.

Ashley and Charlie Johnson led the Hawks with five rebounds apiece and Robinson tied the Hawks' Roland Arena record with seven assists. Former Hawk Ryan Petty recorded seven assists in two different games at Roland Arena during the 2012-13 season.

Huntingdon returns to action on Tuesday in the Don Lane Classic in Lexington, Ky. The Hawks will play Transylvania at 4 p.m.
