Hawks come up short at Faulkner in exhibition game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team battled Faulkner University down to the final minute but came up short 58-56 in an exhibition game on Tuesday night.

A basket by Charvez' Hobson gave Huntingdon a 56-52 lead with 3:33 to play in the game. But the NAIA Eagles scored the final six points of the game. Faulkner used a free throw and field goal to pull within a point, 56-55, in the final minute.

The Eagles sank two free throws with 23 seconds remaining to take the lead and added a final free throw with six seconds to play.

Hobson, James Harris and Ceaunte Zachery each scored eight points to pace the Hawks. Zachery had a team-high nine rebounds, Hobson pulled down seven rebounds and Harris had a team-high five assists and four steals.

Huntingdon played from behind for most of the first half and took its first lead of the game on a Harris free throw late in the first half. The Hawks carried a 31-26 lead into halftime.

Huntingdon opened the second half with a 9-0 run and built a 12-point lead in the first five minutes after halftime. A basket by Zachery put the Hawks ahead 40-28 with 15:12 left in the game.

But Faulkner answered and took a 48-47 lead with 7:12 to play. Neither team led by more than four points for the remainder of the game.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon opens the season at home on Friday against Berry College at 7 p.m.
