Huntingdon men’s golf places second in Royal Lakes Fall Classic

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Freshman Steven Smith shot the low round on Tuesday and all five Huntingdon golfers shot 76 or better to lead the Hawks in the final round of the Royal Lakes Fall Classic.

Smith fired a 4-under-par 67 on the final day at Royal Lakes Country Club to help Huntingdon finish as the tournament runner-up. The Hawks shot 287 on Tuesday and 587 for the tournament. Christopher Newport won the tournament with a two-round total of 585. Huntingdon was eight strokes back and in sixth place after the first round.

Christopher Newport's Joe Evans was the individual champion with a 36-hole total of 138. Smith and Huntingdon junior Sam Strachan tied for eighth at 146. Strachan shot a 73 in both rounds. Smith's 67 was 12 strokes better than his first-round 79.

Huntingdon sophomore Jamey Lester and freshman Thomas Mitchell each shot 149, to tie for 20th. Mitchell shot 72 on Tuesday and Lester shot 76. Sophomore Griffin Just shot 75 in the final round and finished tied for 28th with a 152.
