Huntingdon men’s golf finishes seventh in D3 Preview tournament
HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team struggled on Tuesday in the final round of the Gordin Classic NCAA D3 National Championship Preview at Mission Inn Resort & Club.
Huntingdon shot a final round score of 313 to drop from fourth place to seventh place. The Hawks finished with a three-round total of 913. Methodist University won the tournament with an 889. Illinois Wesleyan and Guilford College tied for second at 903.
Guilford's Noah Ratner won the individual title with a 3-under-par 213. Ratner shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday. Methodist University's Mike Wesko shot a 3-under 69 in the final round and finished second in the tournament with an even-par 216.
Huntingdon freshman Steven Smith finished tied for 12th with a 54-hole total of 224. Smith shot 79 in the final round. Sophomore Jamey Lester and freshman Thomas Mitchell each shot 77 to lead the Hawks on the final day. Mitchell finished tied for 27th at 230. Lester, who was disqualified from the first round for a scorecard error, shot 149 in the final two rounds.
Junior Sam Strachan tied for 32nd with a 231 and sophomore Griffin Just tied for 75th with a 240.
