Huntingdon tied for 20th after first round of National Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 309 in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Championship on Tuesday at Mission Inn Resort.

The Hawks are tied for 20th entering the second round of the tournament on Wednesday. Huntingdon will tee off beginning at 9:20 a.m. CST.

Oglethorpe leads the tournament at 3-under-par 285. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Christopher Newport are tied for second at 289.

Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Brad Shigezawa are tied for the individual lead. Maccaglia and Shigezawa each shot 4-under 68. Nineteen golfers shot par or better in the opening round.

All five Huntingdon golfers shot between 74 and 79. Junior Sam Strachan led the Hawks with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 30th. Freshman Thomas Mitchell and junior Tyler Schmutz each shot 78 and sophomore Jamey Lester and freshman Steven Smith both shot 79.
