Hawks tied for 10th after Rd. 1 of Rhodes Classic

TUNICA, Miss. – The Huntingdon men's golf team is tied for 10th entering the final round of the Rhodes College Fall Classic.

The Hawks shot 313 on Sunday in the first round at Tunica National Golf Course. Rhodes leads the field at 295 and Texas Lutheran and Southwestern University are tied for second at 298.

"Today was a tough day," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "The weather was tough, but I expected more fight out of my upper classmen. I'm sure there were some nerves going on out there, but I expect the older guys to handle that."

Sophomore Will Thrash led Huntingdon with a 3-over-par 75 and is tied for 19th. Freshman Mac Harris shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 23rd.

"Will was solid today. He didn't have his A-game, but he has really turned a corner in his game. Big things are just around the corner for him," Schreyer said. "The other bright spot today was freshman Mac Harris. Mac was solid all day. His short game let him down today, but he is going to be a good one."

Behind Thrash and Harris, junior David James shot a 6-over 78 and is tied for 36th. Senior Steven Smith shot 84 and freshman Alex Brownell shot 86.

Texas Lutheran's Taner Zimmerhanzel and Rhodes' Chris Harris are tied for first at 2-under 70.
