Thrash, Hawks finish 5th in Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Sophomore Will Thrash shot a 2-over-par 146 and the Huntingdon men's golf team shot 601 in the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate. Thrash finished tied for fifth and the Hawks finished fifth in the team standings.

Thrash tied his best collegiate round on Sunday, shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round. Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia was the tournament medalist with a 5-under 67 on Sunday and a 5-under 139 for the tournament.

As a team, Huntingdon followed up its first-round score of 300 with a 301 on Sunday. LaGrange was the tournament champion at 589 and Methodist and Guilford tied for second at 593. Oglethorpe was fourth at 594.

Behind Thrash, freshman Garrett Harrison tied for 17th at 150 and junior David James tied for 20th at 151. Freshman Peter Scrimgeour finished with a two-round 156 and senior Steven Smith shot 160. Playing as an individual, freshman Mac Harris shot 157.

"This was a solid weekend for the boys. We finished ahead of four teams that were ranked in front of us," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "It was nice to see the boys give themselves an opportunity to win. I'm very pleased with our start to the spring and now we're going to start preparing for Jekyll Island. We want to try and get a little better every week."

Huntingdon returns to action in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on March 13-15.
