Huntingdon finishes sixth in Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's golf team finished strong and shot 293 in the final round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.

Huntingdon finished sixth with a three-round total of 888 and the Hawks' top two golfers finished within 10 strokes of first place.

LaGrange won the tournament with an 863, Illinois Wesleyan was second at 873 and Methodist was third at 881.

"This was another exciting tournament for our team. We ran with the best teams in the country and made it into the final pairing with the second, third and ninth ranked teams in the country," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "I am especially excited about how we closed the tournament. The boys really showed some guts as we came down the final stretch. We beat nine teams that were ranked ahead of us, including No. 1 Texas-Tyler. I'm looking forward to seeing where we are in the rankings on Tuesday."

Sophomore Will Thrash and freshman Mac Harris each shot their best rounds as Hawks on Sunday. Both golfers finished at 2-under-par 70 in the final round.

Harris finished the tournament tied for seventh at even-par 216 and Thrash was 11th at 1-over 217. LaGrange's Cory Howard and Methodist's Mason Stutler tied for first at 207.

Behind Harris and Thrash, sophomore Garrett Harrison shot 224, junior David James shot 231 and freshman Peter Scrimgeour shot 243.

Huntingdon returns to action on March 23 in the West Cup.
