Hawks shoot 291 in Rd. 2 of Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shaved two strokes off its first-round score but remained in seventh after the second round of the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational.

After recording its best round of the fall on Sunday with a 293, Huntingdon was two strokes better on Monday with a 291. Entering Tuesday's final round at the Raven Golf Club, the Hawks are seventh in the 18-team field with a two-round 584.

"The boys played really well all day but once again, we fell apart at the end of our round," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We lost 11 shots on our last three holes and that is unacceptable. We have to finish better. We have to do a better job of protecting what we worked so hard for earlier in the round."

The University of Texas-Tyler, which led by two strokes after Round 1, leads the field with a 36-hole total of 565 (280-285). Methodist is second at 570 (282-288) and Oglethorpe is third at 575 (287-288).

Junior Chad Ring fired his best round as a Hawk with a 3-under-par 68 in the second round. With a two-round 140, Ring is three strokes off the lead and in sixth.

Junior Will Thrash shot a 1-over 72 in the second round and is tied for 34th at 147 and junior Addison Lambeth shot 4-over 75 and is tied for 38th at 148. Freshman Stephen Shephard is two strokes behind Lambeth at 150 and senior David James is at 151 for the tournament.

Rhodes College's Chris Harris and Texas-Tyler's Buddy Hallman are tied for first at 5-under 137. Harris shot a 5-under 66 in the second round and Hallman shot a 6-under 65 in the first round. Oglethorpe's Kyle Shealy fired the low round of the tournament on Monday with a 7-under 64 and is tied for third at 4-under 138.
