Lambeth and Hawks lead O’Briant-Jensen after Rd. 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Addison Lambeth turned in the best round on Monday and the Huntingdon men's golf team leads by five strokes after the first round of the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial.

Lambeth fired a 3-under-par 68 in the opening round and leads the field at Sedgefield Country Club by four strokes. Greensboro's John Grimes is second at 1-over 72.

"Addison played a phenomenal round of golf, from tee to green," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "He certainly showed he is one of the best golfers in the country."

The round was Lambeth's best as a Hawk and is tied with junior Chad Ring for the best round by a Hawk this fall. In his first season with Huntingdon, Lambeth leads the team with an average of 73.1 per round.

As a team, Huntingdon shot 302 to lead the 18-team field. Wittenberg University is second at 307 and Kenyon College and Guilford College are tied for third at 311.

"Overall, as a team, we didn't play at the level we expected, but the guys fought hard and have a five-stroke lead," Schreyer said. "It's nice to sit at the top of the leader board again. This time we hope to finish strong with a solid final round."

In addition to Lambeth, Ring is also in the top-10. Ring shot a 5-over 76 and is tied for ninth entering Tuesday's final round. Junior Will Thrash shot a 78 and is tied for 20th and sophomores Chase Feagin and Jon Colten Stanaland each shot 80. Playing as an individual, freshman Stephen Shephard shot an 82.
