Hawks eight strokes out of first after Rd. 1 at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 5-over-par 293 and all five golfers are within 10 strokes of first place after Friday's opening round in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.

In a field that features 12 of the top-20 Division III teams, the seventh-ranked Hawks are eight strokes out of first and in 13th entering Saturday's second round.

Leading the field is 15th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan with a 3-under 285 and 19th-ranked LaGrange is second with a 2-under 286. Christopher Newport is third with a 1-under 287.

Junior Addison Lambeth, who is ranked sixth in Division III, turned in a 2-under 70 to lead the Hawks. Lambeth is three strokes off the lead and tied for seventh.

Rhodes College's Joey Mayo and Piedmont College's Garrett Rowland are tied for the lead at 5-under 67.

Behind Lambeth, junior Chad Ring and sophomore Jon Colten Stanaland each shot 2-over 74 for the Hawks. Ring and Stanaland are both seven strokes out of first and tied for 52nd.

Senior David James shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 70th and junior Will Thrash shot a 5-over 77 and is tied for 94th.
