Lambeth ties for 5th, Hawks finish 10th at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The seventh-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 296 in the final round on Sunday and finished with a three-round total of 873 in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.

In a 30-team field that included 12 of the top-20 Division III teams, the Hawks finished 10th. LaGrange, the 19th-ranked team in Division III, won the tournament with a 5-under-par 859. Second-ranked Methodist and 12th-ranked Rhodes tied for second at 1-under 863.

"We were in the final group, playing with the No. 2 team in the nation today, but it was a bit of a letdown after winning two straight tournaments," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "But we gained some good experience and we're going to continue to move forward."

Huntingdon junior Addison Lambeth, who is ranked sixth in Division III, finished eight strokes out of first and tied for fifth. Lambeth led the Hawks with an even-par 72 on Sunday and was 3-under for the tournament with a three-round total of 213.

Senior David James, a day after shooting a 6-under 66, shot a 2-over 74 in the final round and finished tied for 16th with a 1-under 215

Rhodes' Joey Mayo was the tournament medalist with an 11-under 205.

"Addison played well all weekend. He had one bad hole today, but other than that, he struck the ball well and played his style of golf," Schreyer said. "It was also a solid weekend for David. The 66 in Round 2 definitely showed him what he is capable of. He is a talented golfer. Like I've said before, there is a lot of talent on this team."

Junior Will Thrash shot a 1-over 73 for the Hawks in the final round and finished with a 7-over 223 for the tournament. Sophomore Jon Colten Stanaland finished with a three-round total of 225 and junior Chad Ring shot 239.

Huntingdon will host the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on March 28-29.
