Hawks in 6th after Rd. 1 of NCAA Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot a 16-over-par 300 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships on Tuesday.

Entering Wednesday's second round, the Hawks are in sixth in the 41-team field. Huntingdon is 14 strokes off the lead, but just three strokes out of second place. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads the field with a 2-over 286. St. Thomas (Minn.) is second with a 13-over 297.

"Today was tough and we are grateful to be in sixth," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "Being from the South, our guys are not used to this northern rough. Hopefully we learned a few things today and we will be ready to make a move on Wednesday."

Junior Addison Lambeth led Huntingdon with a 1-over-par 72 at Mendon Golf Club. Lambeth is four strokes out of first and tied for ninth. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Kethan Reddy turned in Tuesday's best round with a 3-under 68.

Huntingdon junior Will Thrash shot a 3-over 74 on Tuesday and is tied for 29th. Junior Chad Ring and senior David James each shot 6-over 77 and are tied for 69th. Freshman Stephan Shephard is tied for 92nd with a 7-over 78.
